Bio

After graduation from Girard High School and a short summer school program in the secretarial field at Pittsburg State College I moved on to Kansas City and began working as a transcription typist for Hallmark Cards. In October of the same year I moved from Kansas City to Wichita where I had relatives and began working as a clerk at G.A.C. Finance Co. In l966 I married Jim Canady.

Jim's National Guard unit was activated in 1968 and sent to Vietnam. While he was away I continued to work in the finance field until the birth of our second daughter.

Upon Jim's return from Vietnam in November of 1969 he resumed his job at Household Finance Corp. and I became a stay at home mom. Jim's job transferred us to Lansing, KS. and then to Kansas City, MO. From Kansas City we came to Hastings, NE. and the following year, 1972, to our "HOME", North Platte, NE.

I then became a great full time volunteer with various school and church organizations. When the girls got older I returned to the work field as a part time billing clerk for a family owned office supply store in l979. The part time quickly turned into full time. I have been in the management side of the business now for over 10 years. We still consider ourselves a small business and hope we can continue to thrive against the "super stores" in the area.

Sadly, Jim and I divorced in l985. We have 5 grandchildren. My daughters thought I should be a very young grandmother! Becky and husband James have 3 children. James (Rog) is 17 and twins Matthew and Tara are 16. Robin and husband Mark have 2 children; Jodi, 12 and Michael is 10. Becky and family live here in North Platte so I keep very busy being a supportive grandmother attending all of the various sports events in which the grandkids are involved. Robin and family live in Scottsbluff, NE. where Robin runs a very successful real estate appraisal business from her home.

My very large family is scattered across the country. My baby sister still lives in Girard and I have a brother and sister in Pittsburg. The other sisters are in Dallas, Tampa, Topeka, and Broken Arrow, OK. We try every year to have a "sisters vacation". We have traveled together to the Bahamas, Chicago, Orlando, Vancouver and Portland. We are currently planning a trip this October to San Antonio.

I am sorry to say I will not be able to attend the reunion because of two prior commitments in Girard this summer. I have a niece graduating this May from Pittsburg State University and my children's God parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in July. I'm sorry to say that the vacation days won't stretch far enough to attend the reunion also.

It has been wonderful catching up on everyone via the bios and I apologize for my procrastination in getting mine in sooner. I really appreciate and thank Charlie for putting up the website so that all of us who cannot attend could enjoy them.
