Upon
graduating from GHS, I helped area farmers and tried to attend college at
KSTC of Pittsburg. While attending college, I was hired as the boy's
supervisor at Elm Acres Youth Home South of Girard. I stayed at that
job until Uncle Sam said he had seen enough and asked that I come and join
his Army.
I was a Food Inspector/Veterinary Assistant receiving training in Chicago, Il. In September of 1966 I was sent to Vietnam to inspect and purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local vendors and to assist a Veterinarian with caring for some very nasty-tempered sentry dogs in Pleiku. I spent 13 months in country, picked up some schrapnel in the leg from a mortar and came home to be stationed in Boston Army Base until my tour of duty was up. In September of 1969 I was hired as a police officer for the Pittsburg Police. I worked my way through the ranks and was appointed Assistant Chief of Police in November 1978. In July of 1984, I was chosen to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. I remained with the Police Department until retiring in February of 1995. After "retiring", I worked part time jobs until August of 1997 when I was hired as a security guard at Pitt-Plastics of Pittsburg. I am presently at that position. In July of 1970 I married Audrey "Kay" Perry of Pittsburg. We have one daughter, Kristina Kay, who is 24 years old and looking for a vocation at the present time. In my leisure time, I work on small engines and try to play golf. My wife and I are on a bowling league in Pittsburg.
