Hello to all!

The morning after graduation, I left Girard and headed for the big city.  Once settled in Kansas City, MO I began a career in the insurance business, and met my husband, Dick, through a mutual friend.  We were married in Feb. of 1967 and lived in KC and Roeland Park, KS, until Christmas of ‘69, when we packed a truck and headed west for a new home and life in Colorado.

After transferring to CO I continued to work full-time for Safeco Insurance, which I left in ‘76, to work part-time as our church financial secretary and start a family.  In Sept 1978, Dick and I finally had a healthy baby boy, who we named Harley (after Dad).  Harley has been a great source of joy in my life as he was very active in a variety of sports, which we were always the “Team-Parents” for.

Amongst other things Harley played High School football, for which he was recruited. He decided to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in Kings Point, NY.  After graduating the Academy in June 2001, Harley returned to Colorado and attempted to sail on his license.  He is now working for Gart Sports, at their corporate headquarters in the Transportation / Logistics Department.  Just this week they announced a merger with Sports Authority, creating the largest retail sporting goods chain in the United States.

Dick made a career for himself in the foodservice supply and equipment industry.  He was not only active with Harley’s endeavors but also with a variety of sporting events through our church.  In June of 2000 Dick passed away suddenly, suffering a massive heart attack.  This caught us all off-guard and was hard, but we had a happy 33˝ years of marriage and a lot of good memories.

After leaving the church, I worked for several years part-time as a “Nutritional Distribution Manager,” with the Jefferson County School District.  With Dick’s passing I needed to seek a full-time position and as a result I returned to the Insurance business as the accountant for a small insurance broker.  Mrs. Johnson would be happy to hear that I have continually utilized my bookkeeping skills; however, I know she always preferred reading Norman’s writing.

Valentines Day weekend I visited my dad, Harley, brother, Norman ’61 and sister, Phyllis ’77 in Tulsa, OK.  My mother, Mardell, was killed in a car accident in 1980.  I know several of you remember Mom and Dad, as they had owned the Phillips 66 station and restaurant on the corner of Hwy 7 and 57, just a block from the High School.

I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone in June for the reunion.  I have enjoyed all the bios and the memories that they invoke.

PS:  Thanks to Charlie and Roger for everything they are doing, it is great being “in touch” again with everyone.   See you all in June!
