Two weeks after graduating I joined the
Navy for four years. Spent two years going to technical schools. The
other two were aboard a guided missile cruiser (USS Topeka). Got to see
a lot of the Far East including Viet Nam.
I married Irene Bennett in 1967 and started working at Pittsburg State University as an electronics technician in closed-circuit television. I have one daughter (Kristine) and two grandchildren ages 6 and 2 and am a lifelong resident of Girard. My wife works at Craw-Kan Telephone Co. as a bookkeeper. My daughter is a nurse at the hospital in Girard. In 1999 I retired from Pittsburg State University and started managing the golf course in Girard. I play golf every day, so I don’t consider this job as work. See you all at the reunion this summer. Merle Whiteman
